Chiredzi is the service town for Zimbabwe's sugar industry — the vast Triangle and Hippo Valley estates that line the Runde and Mutirikwe rivers in the Masvingo lowveld. The geology here is complex: Karoo-age sedimentary rocks (Ecca sandstones and shales) overlie the ancient Limpopo Mobile Belt basement, creating variable borehole conditions.
